In September of 2018, RandyKitty was banned from Wikipedia for "abuse of editing privileges:.

A few months later, he was allowed to come back. Why?

Magnifying Glass

After years of questionable behavior on Wikipedia, rumblings about administrator abuse started to spread across various forums. Many websites began to crop up across the web that made many allegations of administrator abuse, including mentions of RandyKitty, and it was clear that pressure was mounting to take action.

Based on the timing of all of these online conversations about RandyKitty, the nature of his "self-ban" seems suspect. Some observers speculate that RandyKitty was possibly asked to ban himself, and that perhaps it was an orchestrated effort by some administrators to curtail the alleged abuses. As a result of the ban, RandyKitty's user account was stripped of it's administrator privileges.

Even more telling is the fact that RandyKitty allies are beginning to disappear from Wikipedia as well. User Jytdog, a long-time ally of RandyKitty and prolific administrator, was recently forced off of Wikipedia and was indefinitely banned.

Jytdog and RandyKitty have both pursued similar causes in the past, and Jytdog has his own history of alleged misconduct.

At the end of the day, it appears that RandyKitty's 3-month self-ban did not come without consequence for the prolific editor. Being blocked from editing is a big deal, particularly when it is for "abuse of editing privileges". A review of RandyKitty's contribution history prior to the indefinite block suggests that he was not following the rules, and it became clear after the block was lifted that he initially intended on flying under the radar. However, after months of facing little resistance, his recent edits have begun to illustrate a familiar pattern of possible violations and a disregard for consensus.

As RandyKitty continues to engage in questionable behavior on Wikipedia, other editors and administrators must consider the long-term implications of what it means to let this editor go unchecked. The Wikipedia community is invited to conduct their own research. During our investigation into RandyKitty's self-block, we discovered many pieces of evidence that point to possible malfeasance that are now published on this website, and we encourage visitors to this site to come to their own conclusions.
